Remote Area Trekking, Mustang, the kingdom with in a kingdom is a desert plateau at 12,400ft and occupies 780 square miles. It lies north of main Himalaya Range. The great wind whipping up between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri have created a dry desert landscape stark and arrogant in its beauty. Mustang is a mispronunciation of the capital of low, which was called manthang. The restricted area of Tibetan influence is north of the Kagbeni, is generally referred to as upper mustang, consists of two distinct regions; the southern region, is with five village inhabited by people related to the Manang's and the northern region where the language, culture and traditions are almost purely Tibetan. Mustang has a long, rich and complex history that makes it one of the most interesting places in Nepal. The early history of Lo is surrounded in legend, myths and mystery, b ut there are events of records in Lo as early as 8th century. The trek to Lo is through a barren, almost treeless landscape, strong wind usually howls across the area in the afternoon. Being in the rain shadow of the Himalaya Lo receives much less rained than the rest of Nepal. During place is similar with Tibetan Plateau with its endless expanses of yellow and Grey rolling hills, eroded by wind. There is more rain in the lower part of lower mustang and the hills tend to be great, red fluted cliff of tiny, round stone cemented together by mud. Villages are several hours apart and appear in the distance almost as mirages during the summer season after the crops is planted, they are green oases in the desert like landscape.
